Young Men, Old Mountains, A Kayak Adventure In Tibet
I wanted my first Himalayan adventure so be something special and Tibet didn’t disappoint me. The country has fascinated me since I read Tintin in Tibet, which tells the story of Tintin going to the ends of the earth in search of a lost friend something I hold dear so seemed a good reason to go.
The expedition went to explore the tributaries of the Yarlung Tsangpo Valley, paddling the rivers with the most volume and gradient. Some rivers worked out well, others flowed into forests! Such are the unpredictable adventure expedition life seems to encourage.
The paddling wasn’t the only source of mischief; I and two other English kayakers could get up to. Any Tibetan village no matter how small would sell beer and a few interesting nights with the locals were, well, interesting. With a variety of photos and short movie clips I hope to inspire you to go have your own adventure!
