Local Attractions
Stoneleigh Park is ideally situated to visit many local attractions and there is certainly a lot to see and do once you’ve had a good look around the Canoexpo! The main local towns are Royal Leamington Spa, Warwick and Stratford on Avon, not forgetting of course Coventry.

Stratford, famous as the birthplace of Shakespeare is about 25 minutes away and is packed full of shops, attractions, restaurants, and of course, the River Avon and the canal.

Warwick has the Castle, which has a host of attractions running, and Leamington is a beautiful city well worth a visit. Check out the links below for information relating to each of the local towns and cities. You are also closely placed for visiting the beautiful scenery and small villages of the Cotswolds.whitewater-opport.jpg

If you fancy going paddling whilst you’re not in the show, there are plenty of places to go close by and a bit further afield.

FLAT & CALM WATER TOURING
The canal can be accessed in Stratford, Leamington and Banbury, giving access to many miles of touring in beautiful scenery and impressive town centres.

The Avon can be accessed in Stratford; either in one of the many town-centre car parks, or out of town at the free car park on the Warwick Road (but be careful as it has a height barrier!). A particularly enjoyable paddle is the cruise from Stratford to Bidford, a trip of approximately 10 miles, with 6 weirs, which can be shot or easily portaged (For details of this route, please visit www.merciacanoeclub.org.uk/avondescent.html this also shows the location of the free car park!).

The Leam can be paddled from Leamington down to the confluence with the Avon; there is a set of steps to the river in the car park by the A452 on Adelaide Road ( http://tinyurl.com/33jb8v).

WHITEWATER
Whilst Coventry is not know for it’s whitewater paddling being so close to the motorway network means that you are also pretty close to some good whitewater spots within an easy drive.

The Nene Whitewater Centre in Northampton is about 45 minutes away and is agood beginners to intermediate artificial white water site. www.nenewhitewatercentre.co.uk/ or telephone 01604 634040.

The Holme Pierrpont artificial white water course is suitable for intermediate and advanced paddlers and is also about an hour away in Nottingham; www.leisureconnection.co.uk/centre/3/78/holme_pierrepont.html/ or telephone 0115 9821212

Hurley weir the famous play spot is also about an hour away and is best accessed from Junction 4 of the M40. Level information and weir guides on Hurley and the other Thames weirs can be found at www.tvfreestylers.co.uk/

If
you fancy venturing a bit further afield to try out all your new goodies, North, South and mid Wales are both a couple of hours drive away. As a rough guide it takes about 2 ½ hours to get to the Usk or the Dee.

SEA
Is a long way from Stoneleigh and cold at this time of year so either see flat water options above or stay at the Stoneleigh and enjoy all there is to see.
